Team Evolution

The team was founded in August 2010 and was originally named CEMASAS. 2010 and 2011 were years of a lot of study and learning, seeking to better understand and know the world of aero design. In November 2011, the CEMASAS team went to watch the national stage of the SAE Brazil AeroDesign Competition, which happen in São José dos Campos / SP.

In 2012 we participated in our first competition and since then we have been present annually in the national competition, the SAE Brasil AeroDesign Competition.

In these participations the team won, in 2012, the 2nd place in the category of Loads and Structures, presenting a project recognized by the judges as a high quality project. That same year, the team was ranked 23rd overall in the Regular class among more than 70 participating teams.

In 2013 the team faced problems with the aircraft during the competition and couldn’t complete any flights, finishing the competition in 54th place among the 75 participating teams, with only the score obtained from the reports.

In 2014 the team finished the competition in 38th place, what was not expected. But the team sought to transform this experience into learning and maintain motivation for the next year.

However, in 2015 the team cannot participate, because the vacancies were distributed by lot. So, on that year the focus moved to training members and conducting social activities, such as school visits and a paper plane championship. The team was also present at the National Congress of Mobility Engineering (CONEMB) with a flight simulator.

Already in 2016, in place of the draw of vacancies came the Access Tournament, so that the teams could win a place in the competition on their own merit and that’s how we won our seat to participate in the 2017 competition.

The team effectively returned to the competition in 2017, already under the name of Nisus Aerodesign and with a brand new membership. This year the team suffered from administrative problems and was penalized for late delivery of reports and the flight validation video, concluding the competition with one of the worst results ever (51st place).

In 2018 again the team faces problems with the aircraft during the competition and cannot fly. The inexperience of the new team coupled with the lack of tests on the final version of the aircraft prevented the team from scoring, taking 49th place in the competition.

The 2019 competition, for the first time in all years of existence, the reports were delivered on time, without penalty. During flights, the team succeeded in 4 of 5 flight attempts. The aircraft carried 8,575 kg providing good score. The best place of all time was achieved, 21st, on today’s competition that counts with 60 teams on Regular category.
